About Melissa

Melissa Noble Contreras is a native to Arizona, living everywhere from northern Arizona on the Navajo Reservation to southern Arizona in Tucson. She has been married for 27 years, and is blessed to be the mother of 7 beautiful children ages 6 to 25 and a Grandmother of 2 wonderful grandchildren.

Her interest in the birthing process began after the birth of her first child. She began by taking classes related to the medical profession culminating with the nursing entrance exam. With each of her births she became more aware of her interests in nontraditional approaches to her own pregnancies and deliveries. Her interests peaked after the birth of her 4th child with a midwife in Tucson Arizona. Finally at the birth of her 7th child she knew positively she was called to become a midwife. Her hobbies and interests include walking, yoga, camping, singing, as well as volunteering at her children’s schools. Melissa is very pleased to be a student midwife at A Blessed Beginning.

About Alicia

Alicia is an Arizona transplant originally from the beautiful State of Utah where she graduated from The Utah College of Massage Therapy in 1999. She married her high school sweetheart, Michael, in 2001 and moved to the State of Washington to start a family and practice massage therapy. In 2003, she had her first natural childbirth experience in a hospital under the exceptional care of an OBGYN.  After a move back to Utah, their second child came to them in 2004 through foster care and adoption. Over the next six years, their family gave shelter to dozens of children in need. During that time, she became pregnant with her third child born in 2006. At a birthing center, under the care of a CNM, she encountered the Midwifery Model of Care. Many “light bulb” moments occurred during this pregnancy and birth. Shortly after, with newborn in tow, she attended a woman’s conference where she met a DONA certified doula trainer. In 2007, she signed up for the doula training; this education launched her passion for childbirth into full swing. She began doing doula work and also continued with foster care. In 2007 Alicia and her husband adopted their second son and fourth child while she was pregnant as a surrogate for another family. Her surrogate son (3rd pregnancy) was born soon after the adoption in a birth center with the same awesome CNM. Then along came her fifth child whom they adopted in 2008. With her family complete she is now able to pursue her dream of becoming a licensed midwife under the caring and knowledgeable direction of Pamela Qualls, LM. Alicia feels blessed to be part of this beautiful practice.
